Crabbing

Let's start with crabbing! Picture yourself on a boat or a cozy dock, setting out traps with the salty sea breeze in your hair. You can learn to drop those pots into the water and patiently wait for the crabs to come biting. The Puget sound offers a safe and welcoming environment to try your hand at this time-honored pastime. You'll be amazed by the thrill of catching your own crabs and savoring the delicious reward of your hard work. With a bit of guidance and understanding of sustainable practices, you'll quickly become a confident crabber, breaking through any preconceived barriers and proving that this activity is for everyone.

Crabbing:

Personal Experience

When I first moved to Washington, my dad started working for a foul weather gear company that catered to many commercial fishing boats. As a result, we were immediately thrown into the world of crabbing. Coming from Utah, I couldn't fathom finding any enjoyment in this activity. I mean, I didn't even like eating crab!

However, everything changed when we ventured out into the Puget Sound, bouncing across the waves in our boat. As we hauled up the first pot, anticipation filled the air. But to my disappointment, it was empty. In that moment, I thought to myself, "This is the silliest thing ever. How do guys find joy in this?"

Yet, little did I know that we had five more pots left to check. Deep within me, I could feel a flicker of excitement building up. And then it happened—the second pot revealed a surprise. Crabs! I couldn't believe my eyes. The rush of exhilaration  was unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

Despite being initially skeptical, I discovered the joy of embracing the activity.

It was a transformative experience—a reminder that stepping out of our comfort zones can lead to incredible and unexpected rewards. Sailing

Sailing:

Personal Experience

Sailing has been a cherished tradition in my family for as long as I can remember. My love for it ignited when I first stepped foot on my grandpa's sailboat, gliding across the sparkling waters of the San Francisco Bay. But I'll be honest, the thought of actually sailing terrified me at first. The boat tipping, the flurry of activity with lines being pulled in all directions—it was overwhelming.

However, I soon realized that even though foul weather and unexpected mishaps may not be the most enjoyable in the moment, they often lead to the most prominant memories and bonding experiences. It's in those moments of challenge and adventure that we find the true essence of sailing.

Sailing has taught me invaluable life lessons. It has shown me how to navigate moments of anxiety and fear, pushing me to overcome my limits. I've discovered that embracing the activity for what it truly is—a remarkable journey intertwined with nature's elements—unlocks a sense of freedom and wonder. To harness the power of wind and water as a means of transportation is a remarkable feat, allowing us to explore places we never thought we'd have the chance to see.

Through sailing, I've embarked on incredible voyages, witnessed breathtaking sunsets, and encountered marine life up close. It has opened my eyes to the beauty and vastness of the world around me. But beyond the breathtaking scenery, it's the laughter, and the stories shared with loved ones that make sailing truly special.

So, if you find yourself hesitating to embrace the excitement of sailing, remember that it's okay to feel a mix of fear and exhilaration. Trust in yourself and the experiences that lie ahead. Allow sailing to take you on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery and connection to nature. Embrace the challenges, for they will become the stories you'll recount with joy for years to come. Let sailing be the gateway to uncovering new horizons, both within yourself and the breathtaking world that awaits you.
